2 Chainz Reveals Collaborations with Kanye West For Past Year

After a sold-out performance at S.O.B.’s in New York this past Monday, 2 Chainz is looking to dominate the rap game.

In an interview with MTV’s RapFix Live Wednesday, the confirmed Def Jam signee reveals that he has been collaborating with label co-star Kanye West.

“One thing that people may not know is that I’ve been working with Kanye West for about the last year,” one-half of the former rap duo Playaz Circle said. “We have records together, we have ideas that we’re planning on releasing to the world real soon. I’m tryna get my ‘N in Paris’ swag up.”

The artist also known as Tity Boi is also preparing the release of his highly anticipated solo album, tentatively titled T.R.U. 2., (The Real University)and is looking to “shake up hip-hop” with the College Dropout rapper.

“It’s no secret that I came from the hustle background, from that trap kinda rap, and it’s no secret that he’s maybe more of a hipster swag, backpack kinda guy. So I think it’ll be interesting when you just drop that in the pot, in the blender, and see the outcome and results of some of that.”

The Atlanta native is also grateful for his success and hopes to continue to grow as an artist. Maybe even rub off on West himself.

“I’m one of those people that feel like you’re never too old to learn new things and even bruh, he still can learn new things from the avenue and path that I come from,” 2 Chainz said.

De La Vault: Unreleased Kanye West Footage

Fans took a trip down Kanye West’s memory lane this past week as exclusive videos of his teen years were released on the interwebs.

In time for the recent holiday, a video from 1990 showing a 19-year-old ‘Ye reciting a special poem at a Martin Luther King memorial at the prestigious fine-arts school John H. Vanderpoel Elementary in Chicago circulated on the blogs. He delivers his MLK Jr. tribute entitled “His Name Means Love” below.

A rare 1996 performance a la Yeezy in a Chi-Town club also surfaced on YouTube. “Keepin emcees lookin out” in his white polo tucked-in days, West, along with local rapper Phenom, hype up the crowd with the same spitfire raps the soon-to-be college dropout would be known for.

LISTEN: Amber Rose feat. Wiz Khalifa “Fame”

I will admit that when news broke last week that Amber Rose was dropping a single with the help of rapper hubby Wiz Khalifa, I was nervous. It’s one thing to release your own line of shades but to dabble in music by association rather than er…talent recognition, things can go awry.

Nevertheless, after a jampacked Monday of scheming disses and a baby’s glory, the interwebs simmered a little, allowing rosebuds and rosestuds to receive the musical gift they’ve been waiting for.

If you’re ready for the fame, listen here.

Kanye’s Early Morning Twitter Rant Promotes Passion, Introduces DONDA

In a rare Twitter appearance, Kanye West tweeted enough brain food for his followers early this morning.

In a train of more than 80 tweeted thoughts, West introduces his latest project DONDA and the need to “pick up where Steve Jobs left off.”

Despite the rejection he received from industry veterans, he emphasizes on his passion for fashion, recalling the internship positions offered at Fendi and Versace, to designing in Japan and how his style ideas extend beyond a pair of Yeezy sneakers. He also clears up that his line from the Paris fashion show is called “Kanye West” not Dw, the initials of his late mother, Donda West.

“What good is fame and prestige if you can’t use it to help people… I want to help by doing what I know how to do best .. create.”

The creatively conflicted artist seems to be tweeting his thoughts not just to engage readers but release artistic tension. West eventually reveals the point of the rant session.

He even threw some LOL moments, tweeting:  “She (my mom) said I would always point to the most expensive furs even as a child LOL” and “I knew about my woman’s clothing was what my Mom would wear. I guess some critics would joke that I still don’t know anything LOL.”

He then calls on the forward thinkers that are all “waaaay doper than” ‘Ye, occupation-dropping lawyers, musicians, scientists, doctors, graphic designers among others.  to present their ideas and e-mail them over to DONDA (contactDONDA@gmail.com), “a design company which will galvanize amazing thinkers and put them in a creative space to bounce there dreams and ideas…comprised of over 22 divisions with a goal to make products and experiences that people want and can afford…”

In a campaign advocating change for the better, West showed that his five-million follower Twitter account is worth more than 140 characters.

Amber Rose Blames Kim Kardashian for Split with Kanye West

While Kanye West sung praises of his ex during his Watch The Throne tour, Amber Rose hasn’t really reciprocated the feelings. In fact, she’s amplified the tension by revealing to Star magazine in an exclusive interview the real reason behind their split after more than a year-and-a-half: Kim Kardashian.

“Kim is one of the main reasons why me and Kanye are not together,” Amber told Star. “She’s a homewrecker!”

No need to watch an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians to know that ‘Ye and Kimmy are buds, but the bald-headed vixen claims that both she and NFL star Reggie Bush were being cheated on the by the alleged pair, whom they were both dating at the time.

“She was sending pictures, and I was like, ‘Kim, just stop. Don’t be that person,” Rose said in an e-mail to Kim that never received a response.

“I thought at least she’d be woman enough to respond to me.  She never responded.”

Rose also dissed the recent divorcee for her behavior. “It’s very important that us women stick together and we don’t f**k each other over like that.”

She did however thank the ex-Mrs. Humphries for helping her find true love in her current beau and rapper Wiz Khalifa. “I want to thank her because if she was never a homewrecker, then I never would have met Wiz, and I wouldn’t be as happy as I am now.”

The issue hits newsstands Thursday.

Jhene Aiko Signs To Def Jam; Posts “I am not your next popstar”

The sailing soul(s) singer Jhene Aiko is finally signed, sealed and about to deliver.

Last night, she tweeted a picture of her freshly inked deal to Def Jam, adding a “Merry Christmas !”

She now joins labelmates The Dream, Frank Ocean among other major recording artists. Her recent mixtape released during the summer included collaborations with Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar.

But just to be clear, the soulstress took to her personal Tumblr to straighten out any misleading expectations. She writes, “I’m not your next popstar…next Beyonce…next Aaliyah.” And don’t even think of calling her Cassie’s competition.

Roscoe Dash Talks To VIBE about “J.U.I.C.E.” EP, Upcoming Album and Being More Than Just The Hook Artist

I recently sat down with the “J.U.I.C.E.” man and most sought out hookmaker Roscoe Dash to discuss his new EP, upcoming projects, “Marvin and Chardonnay” and being a role model artist.

When Big Sean, Waka Flocka and Kanye West call on you to do their hooks by the age of 21, you’d think you would be satisfied in your career. But for Roscoe Dash, his latest EP J.U.I.C.E. (Just Understand I Control Everything) is only the beginning.

At the age of 13, a young Dash, whose real name is Jeffrey Johnson, Jr., was balancing basketball, high school, homework and most importantly, music. He would go home to his make-shift studio and write music on his computer while his brother provided the beats (usually before doing his assignments). Dash cites Naughty By Nature’s “O.P.P.” as the first hip-hop song that influenced him to consider music as a career.

“It was the first song that grabbed me,” Dash said. “If a song can brighten your day and make you do this [bounces head], then it’s something you should really pursue.”

Six years later, Roscoe Dash is recognized as a club-banger regular who inspires people to do more than just nod their heads to a beat. Any hook he comes on becomes an instant party anthem.

But the Atlanta native doesn’t immediately think that when he begins recording. “I don’t ever go into the studio and say let me make a club record,” Dash said. “I just really go in and express myself with however I’m feeling that day.”

His recent collaboration with Big Sean and Yeezy on “Marvin & Chardonnay” is an example of Dash’s experimental music-making process, taking a mixture of random ideas and finding various ways to express them. “The beat was crazy that I didn’t know how to rap on it,” he recalls. So he went straight to the hook, thinking that everybody drew some inspiration from Marvin Gaye and combined it with the wine he calls the perfect mood-setter. “When you put those two together, you got trouble,” Dash jokes.

Dash exercises creative control over every aspect of his music, thus the title of his EP J.U.I.C..E., slated for release on Dec. 20. “The term [Just Understand I Control Everything] is something me and the homies use a lot. We’ll use each other’s advantages like if someone has Delta Sky Priority miles or whatever and we all wanna jump the line, we’d say, ‘Hey man, gimme some juice. Juice me up!”

The 7-track compilation boasts features that tap into Dash’s close circle, including Big Sean (“Siddity”), Wale (“Into The Morning”), French Montana and Meek Mill. But what the “No Hands” rapper is most excited about is showing his multi-faceted talents.
He delves deeper into his R&B side with a track called “Impossible” where he showcases his singing prowess. “It isn’t really about giving people something they haven’t heard or selling records, it’s really about me just expressing myself.”

Dash also revealed there will be a J.U.I.C.E. Pt. 2 in the form of an LP to be released in March 2012, tentatively called J.U.I.C.E. Forever. A contribution from Yeezy, a collaboration with B.o.B. and an urban rock song called “Waterfalls” with Jared Evan are set to come on the latter half. “I’m gonna do a 1-2 punch with my album… [the EP] is really just a spoonful of what I’m really gonna hit people with later on.”Another side of Dash comes through in his parenthood. The proud father looks to his 5-year-old Jayla as his motivation. “It’s crazy, I look at her and I see me,” Dash says of his daughter. As a result, he aims to set an example in his artistry. “A lot of people lose sight of that and forget that they’re role models in the music that they’re making, the things that they do and posting the videos they post.” It also helps that Jayla also approves of daddy’s music.

Fans are also a major influence on Dash’s work. Look to his Twitter and he responds to his fans and follows them back unlike most artists on the social media site. “If Twitter would have been relevant way back when I was growing up and I could talk to some of the people I grew up listening to, a lot of things would probably be different.” He takes his fans’ feedback seriously and aims to constantly drop mixtapes to keep them satisfied.

“I like to be that reason why people bob their heads, stomp their feet, smile, whether they havin a bad day, maybe they could’ve just lost their job, that music that comes on and they just forget what they worryin’ about.”  –Adelle Platon
